Nacional Records is bringing its unique and critically-acclaimed sounds to SXSW on Thursday, March 13th, with an official showcase at Palm Door on Sixth. RSVP on Facebook.
The Nacional Records & Friends showcase features a diverse line-up of cutting-edge hip-hop, raucous garage rock, global pop, experimental electronica and more, including four of the label’s most buzzed about bands (Nortec Collective presents Bostich + Fussible, Ana Tijoux, Natalia Clavier and AJ Davila), plus special guest appearances from Irene Diaz and Fofe Y Los Fetiches.
ANA TIJOUX has bubbled up from an underground sensation to mainstream recognition ever since her signature song “1977” was featured in Breaking Bad. She’s been nominated for multiple Grammy’s, mentioned as a favorite of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and performed “1977” live at Grammy weekend with The Roots as her backing band. She appears on the new Morcheeba record and Trey Anastasio from Phish is covering the song on his new tour. “1977” is currently a smash hit in Italy, where it’s a Top 5 hit. Ana Tijoux’s new album ‘Volver’ will be released March 18th.
NORTEC COLLECTIVE presents BOSTICH + FUSSIBLE are multi-Grammy nominated pioneers of electronic music who perform an exciting fusion of Norteño (“from the North”) and Techno, a style of music they invented. With tubas and iPads, Bostich + Fussible have toured the globe extensively, performing at major U.S. festivals and across all corners of the globe, from Brazil to China. They recently appeared as guests on “No Reservations” with Anthony Bourdain and performed at the massive opening ceremonies for the Pan American Games.
NATALIA CLAVIER is an exquisite electro-acoustic vocalist who has toured the world as the long-time live voice of Thievery Corporation. Her critically-acclaimed solo album Lumen was produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Adrian Quesada. With a sultry mix of jazz-inspired vocals, electronic textures and global influences, Lumen
further develops the sound Clavier cultivated while recording and touring with both Thievery Corporation and her husband, Argentinean singer-songwriter Federico Aubele.
AJ DAVILA returns to SXSW with his new solo project after Time Magazine chose his previous band, acclaimed garage rockers Davila 666, as one of the ‘Top 10 Best Bands at SXSW in 2011.’ AJ Davila’s debut solo album ‘Terror Amor’ was recently released to heavy buzz, with glowing reviews at Pitchfork, Spin, Vice, NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, KEXP, MTV Iggy and more. On ‘Terror Amor’, A.J. Davila brings together the guitar-fuzz of ‘60s garage, the raw energy of 70’s punk and the irrepressibly catchy choruses of 80s pop.
