Gaby Moreno lives in Los Angeles and is Guatemalan-born.  She is performing at this year’s Latin Alternative Music Conference - we’re excited to hear her dramatic, acoustic and lush vocals!

Gaby Moreno, a soulful new songwriter, is a transplant from Guatemala City, Guatemala. It was there that Gaby first learned to speak English by playing and singing along with such greats as BB King, Robert Johnson and Nina Simone. For over a year Gaby has crafted songs to fit the vision she had for her debut release. Now she is also helping to promote the upcoming Pachanga latin music festival.

Formed in 2002, the Chilean electro-alternative band RH+ was known as “Rock Hudson” when it introduced its album La Elena to fans in Santiago. It caught on there quickly, and the collective went on to record Quintana Roo, with which it made its U.S. debut. Balancing male and female vocals, the group brings to mind other international acts such as Broken Social Scene, Air, Stereolab and Super Furry Animals, but stands alone for the fluidity with which it blends English and Chilean imagery in its lyrics.

And, finally, we go to the Lower East Side to meet the famous Venezuelan band Los Amigos Invisibles.  They decided to move to New York in the past decade.  They tell us their story and let us listen to their flavorful music.

“Camilo Lara knows his music inside out.The mastermind behind Mexican Institute of Sound is an avid vinyl enthusiast with a collection more than 45,000 albums deep. He also clocks in at a day job as president of EMI Mexico where he heads the label’s A&R department. For the past several years he’s been refining his own musical voice, releasing three albums to international critical acclaim.”

Nortec Collective’s Bostich + Fussible unveil their literal TIJUANA SOUND MACHINE - check it out!  This upcoming touring season’s got a new traveling addition - we hear this baby takes an hour to put together but it’s completely transportable - WOO HOO!

Ahhhh - I’m so excited about this release.  On May 26th, Nacional Records will be releasing Los Amigos Invisibles 6th album, ‘COMMERCIAL’ exclusively on iTunes - the album will then be in stores on June 9th.  As a native New Yorker, I remember being under 21 and sneaking into SOB’s to see their show, dancing like crazy, trying to eye-lust Julio [oh how things have changed!] - I’ve seen these live show veterans everywhere from SOB’s, to el Museo Del Barrio, and Irving Plaza…so hot, so sweaty, so sexy!  This album brings it all together + the single ‘Mentiras’ is just a little taste.  We’re thrilled to be able to release the album + watch it grow!

The first single “Mentiras” made to #1 in the Venezuelan charts in a week and is still working its way up in Mexico. The song has a video shot at Nublu where Jose Luis Pardo plays a lot as a DJ and as Guitar player; the flick was directed by William Zitser who is also responsible for other amigos’ videos (“Gorditas” and “Yo soy asi”); the idea of the video was very clear given the lyric of the song (“they are all lies, I wasn’t there that night, either you must be confused or maybe there was somebody that looked like me”) but looking for a way to make a video in a club differently, we came up with the idea of doing it without cutting, like if a paparazzi came in the club looking for a good compromising pic.
