Nacional Records was present at this year’s Bonnaroo festival with a special tent where Los Amigos Invisibles, Bomba Estéreo, Mexican Institute of Sound, Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible, Aterciopelados, and Ozomatli offered thrilling performances that showcased the finest Latin alternative music.

Los Amigos Invisibles, Nortec Collective and Pacha Massive have teamed up with Latino youth empowerment organization Voto Latino, co-founded by actress Rosario Dawson, and influential artists from all genres and walks of life, including Mos Def, Morrissey, Pitbull and Aventura to help drive participation in the upcoming 2010 Census.
The brand new promotional soundtrack, available exclusively at Voto Latino’s Census site www.BeCountedRepresent.com via a partnership with iTunes, will be available for FREE to anyone who visits Voto Latino’s home page and simply takes a pledge to participate in the Census. Users who take the pledge to be counted by the Census at BeCountedRepresent.com will be given an online code redeemable for the 25 free songs on iTunes.

The infamous Toy Selectah has remixed many artists before – different styles, sounds, and genres. Our fellow regio has surprised us by remixing a song from fellow New York indie band Vampire Weekend. Their first single was called “Orchata” — hm, do I smell some culture trade-off/mix-up? It doesn’t matter because we love his “Cousinz” remix!

The homies, Ozomatli are invading their hometown Los Angeles this weekend with TWO performances this Friday and Saturday at Club Nokia. People in the Bay - don’t be haters! Ozomatli will be performing at ‘Sea of Dreams’ Event in San Francisco on New Year’s Eve. If you don’t live in LA and San Francisco is closer to you, go check it out!

Entre los invitados en tu nuevo disco está, Eugene Katz de los Gogol Bordello. ¿Cómo fue trabajar con él?
A Eugene lo conocí en Barcelona, me lo presentó Manu (Chao). Lo que no me podía imaginar era que ya me conocían, y que ya habían usado partes de Mondo Diffícile (2000) en su disco Santa Marinella, lo que me pareció algo muy simpático y divertido. Por eso les propuse colaborar en un tema en este disco, “Atapuerca”, y fue perfecto. Eugene me trajo como cuatro folios de texto, que tuvimos que adaptar a la canción, en su poesía y su filosofía. A pesar de que yo no tengo ni puta idea del inglés, nos entendimos bastante bien.
